What Are Cannabinoids?
Let’s talk cannabinoids—the naturally occurring compounds found in hemp that interact with your body in uniquely powerful ways.
Cannabinoids interact with something called the endocannabinoid system (ECS)—a complex network of receptors found throughout your body that helps regulate many essential functions, including mood, sleep, stress, pain, inflammation, appetite, and memory.
Your body makes its own cannabinoids (called endocannabinoids) to help maintain internal balance. But plant-based cannabinoids—like CBD, CBN, CBG, CBC, and THC—can also support the ECS by interacting with two main types of receptors:
- CB1 receptors are mostly found in the brain and central nervous system and are involved in regulating mood, memory, sleep, appetite, pain perception, and more.
- CB2 receptors are mostly located in the immune system and peripheral tissues and are linked to inflammation, immune response, and peripheral pain (think pain in your joints and muscles).
Meet the Cannabinoids
Each cannabinoid offers its own set of wellness benefits by interacting with your body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) in different ways. From stress relief to sleep support, here’s what makes each one unique:
- CBD (Cannabidiol) is best known for promoting relaxation, easing stress, and supporting overall balance—without any intoxicating effects. Many people turn to CBD for help staying calm, centered, and focused throughout the day. It's also been said to aid in physical relief and recovery, especially when consumed.
- CBN (Cannabinol) is a go-to for nighttime support. Often referred to as the “sleepy cannabinoid,” it's most commonly used for its calming, sedative effects.
- CBG (Cannabigerol) is considered the “mother of all cannabinoids” because it’s the precursor to many others, including CBD and THC. Early research links it to improved focus, clarity, and even gut health.
- CBC (Cannabichromene) is less well-known but is gaining attention for its potential mood-boosting effects and support with emotional wellness and overall vitality.
- THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) is the most recognized cannabinoid and the one responsible for the psychoactive “high.” But in low doses, it can help ease tension and enhance relaxation without making you feel out of control.
